- 1. Concepts of camouflage, cover and concealment:
-
- a. Camouflage is anything you use to keep yourself, your equiptment,
- and your position from looking like what it actually is. It can also be
- used to disguise an object by making it look like something else. Both
- natural and man made camouflage can be used.
-
- b. Cover is anything that provides protection from the fire of hostile
- weapons (bullets, fragements, flame, nuclear effects, and biological and
- chemical weapons). Cover can also conceal you from enemy observation.
- Cover is natural or artifical.
-
- example 1: A stream or ditch is natural.
- example 2: Behind a wall is artificial.
-
- c. Concealment is anything that hides you from enemy observation.
- Don't ever thing that because you are concealed your covered. Like cover
- there are two types.
-
- example 1: In a bush is natrual.
- example 2: On the second floor of a building out the window is
- artifical.
-
-
- 2. Considerations for individual camouflage:
-
- a. Movement draws attention. When you walk around or create any type
- of motion, it can be seen by the naked eye at long ranges.
-
- b. Outlines and Shadows ,ay reveal your position to the air or to
- ground observers. Outline or shadows may be broken up with camouflage.
- When moving, attempt to stay in the shadows.
-
- c. Shape is outline or form. A trained observer will easily reconize
- the outline of a helmet or a rifle if its outline has not been broken up
- with camouflage.
-
- d. Shine may attract the enemy's attention. Even in darkness, the
- reflection off of your skin, a burning cigarette, or a flash light with
- red lens is easily detectable. Shiny objects such as jewelry must be
- covered in daylight or darkness.
-
- e. The color of your skin, uniform, and equipment may help the enemy
- detect you if the colors contrast with the background.
-
- f. Dispersion is the spreading of men, vehicles and equipment over a
- wide area. It is usually easy to detect a group of revolutionists when
- they are all bunched up. So, Spread out.
